Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne converted his pole position at Oulton Park today claim a valuable podium credit in a sunny Race 1.

Despite a good initial start from pole, Shakey found himself back in 6th on the opening lap. When his Be Wiser teammate Glenn Irwin, who also started from the front row of the grid in 3rd, crashed out on Lap 5, Shakey was promoted to 5th. Shakey went on to pass Dan O'Halloran (Honda Racing) at Lodge on Lap 12 and then Bradley Ray (Buildbase Suzuki) on the following lap at the same corner.

Shakey was ultimately unable to close the gap to race leaders Leon Haslam (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) and Jake Dixon (RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki), crossing the chequered flag in 3rd to claim a valuable podium credit.

Moto Rapido's Taylor Mackenzie was on for a point-scoring finish but unfortunately crashed out at Lodge while running in 10th position.

“The bike’s not really going forward when I’m touching the throttle. I’ve got no real explanation. Felt like I gave my all for 18 laps and unfortunately in that one, my all wasn’t enough. You know, it’s not the end of the world. It’s a podium. It’s difficult to be absolutely over the moon with a 3rd place but it could just have easily been a 4th or a 5th. We need to have a look at the bike, figure out why we don’t have much grip and hopefully we can go forward a little bit with the boys.”
